Oat or Almond Milk? Alkaline or Acid?


So we started making our own plant milk. I have mentioned this in a previous post. Oat milk, so easy. However, looking at going more 70 % alkaline and 30% more acid. I considered changing to Almond milk.

I don’t know about you but the cost, ingredients and the waste involved in buying shop bought plant milk caused a stir in me, so we made our own. No more tetra packs in landfill for us.

Alkaline and Acid Food – 70/30 combination… I won’t give up coffee! Yet!

Almond milk is easy to make:

  • Soak a generous handful of organic almonds in a medium bowl of water overnight.
  • Blend together.
  • Strain through muslin cloth.
  • Put in glass jar, store in fridge, 4 to 5 days.
  • Use almond bits leftover in oat flapjack.
Almond milk – it has a pink highlight.
Oats are acid but remember you can go 70/30.

The recipe for the flapjack is:

  • Heat coconut oil in pan. A dessert spoon.
  • Add oats and two tablespoons of black treacle.
  • Mix until covered and moist.
  • Too moist add more oats or seeds and nuts. Or add remnants from almond milk. (I did!)
  • Too dry and a bit more coconut oil.
  • Mix up.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes 180 degrees.
  • Take out, cut in lines and leave to cool.
  • This flapjack is crunchy as it is more treacle based than fat based.
  • Just as I like it!
