March, March March…

12,000 steps a day. That’s my journey to work and back, walking and busing.

I used to cycle every day but I just wasn’t getting the steps in. I would coast down the A11 putting on a sweat. But it wasn’t enough. So walk I would.

Monday 1st March, pedometer arrives and I walk. Tuesday the same, Wednesday and Thursday. Each say got easier, walking boots were not comfortable. Trainers worked best.

50 minutes to get to work, longer than the 25 minute cycle but I feel better, I take in the scenery. I move fast not stopping at lights etc. I steam along… Listening to a show, radio or podcast. Maybe next week I will do mindful walking.

It’s actually quite quick to walk. I have to leave on time and earlier but at least I’m getting fit and burning the calories. It feels good.

I decided, on  Friday, as a treat, I would cycle. I didn’t enjoy it as much. I missed the way my whole body moves when I walk. At the moment I  prefer walking.

Let’s hope this blog encourages me to keep this up.

Saturday 5th weigh in. 14 stone 9 pounds. I have lost two pounds. I check in the cupboard for a pack of beans or lentils. I find one. It weighs 1lb pound. That’s two  of the packs. It was good to see this. I wonder where it came off, my bottom or my stomach. It is difficult to notice the loss.

But I feel encouraged. So much so that a beer and crisps is my Friday treat. I’ll begin again on Sunday. Pedometer reset and walking continues.
